BHP says rising India Steel Output to Boost Coking Coal Demand

One of the world’s biggest mining companies, and a leading exporter of coking coal, forecast rising steel output in India and more growth from China over the next decade. The argument for this forecast comes from a simple truth: the world (especially the developing world) will need steel – and steel needs coking coal. India is expected to continue rising in importance, not least because they lack coking coal resources in country, and it should substantially overtake other nations in terms of demand by 2021. And as Neil Bristow forecast in his Eurocoke presentation looking at a fifty year time horizon, “developing nations” such as India and many in Africa will experience almost exponential growth in terms of population and need for greater infrastructure – a need that steel can help to fill.
